Nunc Coepi, Now I begin: On resistance and never giving up

"If I should fall even a thousand times a day, a thousand times, with peaceful repentance, I will say immediately, Nunc Coepi [now I begin]"

                                   - Venerable Bruno Lanteri

Welcome to my little corner of the internet.  I am writing this first entry at 34 years old, 20 weeks pregnant with my 1st child, heavier and less fit than I have been in a few years (and I'm only going to get even more heavy and less fit for the next few months).  I am walking out of a very challenging season of my life, and I don't have it all figured out.  I almost stopped myself from working on this little vision of mine because I wasn't at my "best."  But thank goodness I caught myself and recognized the little voice of "Resistance" for what it was.   Steven Pressfield speaks beautifully on this concept of "Resistance" in his book "The War of Art".   As he opens his book, he says this:

There's a secret that real writers know that wannabe writers don't, and the secret is this:  It's not the writing part that's hard.  What's hard is sitting down to write.  What keeps us from sitting down is Resistance.

Take away "writers" and "writing" and add anything you have ever wanted to do or change, but haven't:

If you have wanted to excel at a hobby or sport.

If you have wanted to be physically healthier.

If you have wanted to feel more connected to God.

If you have wanted to start a business.

The concept of Resistance can apply to all our creative desires and personal endeavors that have fallen to the wayside or simply laid dormant, existing only in our minds.

Me starting this blog and account @sarah_farley_wellness on Instagram is me finally punching Resistance in the face, at least for today, and at least for this particular endeavor.  I have had a desire and a vision to contribute to the conversation on Wellness and Personal Growth for years, and have always felt underqualified, like an imposter, or like anything I may say or think somebody else already has.

If that sounds familiar, be encouraged.  You certainly aren't alone, and at any time you can simply say

                                                         Now I begin

Even if you have to say it a thousand times.

So, if you are reading this, let's begin together.  Tomorrow is a new day and a physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthier and more mature version of you is just around the corner...Well maybe down the street, around the block, and around a couple corners.  Either way, let's get to work.

Your health is worth investing in.

Never give up.

With Love,

-Sarah
